Al-Qazwini says: ‘These verses were narrated to us by someone other than Al-Bayhaqi:

idhā kāna shukrī niýmatu’llāhi niýmatan
álayya lahū fī mithlihā yajibu’sh shukr
fa mā liya údhrun ghayra anni muqaşşirun
wa údhrī iqrārī bi an laysa lī údhr

My gratitude is in itself a great gift, a boon
Which makes it obligatory for me to thank for it
I do not have any excuse, other than that I have been heedless
And my excuse is, that I accept I have no excuse
